TURNKEY AUTOMATION
TURNKEY AUTOMATION
Vertex Automation has more than 20 years’ experience in the design and development of various automated systems. This range from the development and manufacturing of fully automated mining Detonator assembly systems to fully robotic DNA laboratories. The DNA laboratory was developed in conjunctions with SWISS company TECAN and was a world first. Vertex Automation has developed a tamper-proof test-tube system that has very specific capabilities to transfer 48 test tubes with DNA data simultaneously to a second set without contamination.
We have developed the equipment, the materials handling, and the services such as air and power for the system. A critical part of the system is its traceability and security in terms of contamination. Vertex Automation has manufactured specialized assembly systems for the automotive industry that assemble safety-critical equipment that required traceability for 20 + years. Some of the equipment was to trace and identify the front windscreen inner and outer parts and direct them in the right direction for the process.
We have manufactured a specialized conveyor system for other parts of the motor glass industry as well. In the plastics industry Vertex Automation have manufactured assembly systems for a foldable crate. The requirements for this project was very intricate, and the design of the crate was essential to ensure correct assembly. Vertex has played a critical role in the development of the plastic parts to ensure correct assembly. Vertex Automation has developed a specialized antenna testing system to test Cellular antennas for Vodacom.
Materials handling equipment and integration
Vertex Automation has manufactured various materials handling equipment for various industries. These range from small parts for medical sample sorting and storage, to handling and transportation of cartons. Wrappers, pallet de stackers, pallet stackers, plastic injection moulding systems and various other applications were designed by Vertex. We have developed and manufactured a few specialized vibratory feeders for small to relatively large parts.

MANUFACTURING
Vertex have designed and build a complete detonator assembly plant. After the first one, we were commissioned to build another two of them.
Vertex have designed and manufactured various pieces of equipment for the automotive catalytic converter market. These range from specialized conveyors, to integrated equipment with machine vision, laser marking, pick and place as well as depositor refurbishment.
In the Automotive market, Vertex have designed and manufactured robotic instrument cluster assembly and ultrasonic welding robot cells. Vertex have also design and manufactured inner door robotic cell assembly and ultrasonic welding stations. We were also involved in the development and manufacturing of machine assisted assembly stations for the automotive market.
Vertex was contacted by a customer to develop a castor wheel assembly station where the different parts as well as the bearing balls and the grease was added and assembled to a complete unit.
Vertex was the largest sub-contractor to a Swiss firm for the development and manufacturing of the first fully automated robotic DNA laboratory in the world. For this application Vertex was involved in the design of all materials handling, robotics, custom equipment, and all the labware. The labware was designed by us, the injection molds was manufactured and proofed in Taiwan by us, and production is done in South Africa.
Vertex was involved in the refurbishment of various plastic bag machines that we have converted to Servo driven systems.
Our specialty is custom designed equipment. For this reason, we are not industry bound, and we do rely on the customer to add value in transferring product and process information to us in order to ensure a well-engineered product. Vertex prefer that our customers is part of the design team, and that their maintenance personnel get involved in the commissioning process to ensure that they have a good understanding of the equipment when delivered to them.
Vertex Automation manufacture have also developed a system for Cash centers at banks where large volumes of cash is handled. Our system has increased the efficiency by 30% while increasing transparency reducing in reducing theft.

Vertex Automation manufacture various types of conveyors utilizing both local and International parts. The selection of parts is done on the system requirements and not on price. We pride ourselves therein that we deliver system with the minimum maintenance requirement and longevity. We do not chase price, but the correct solution for the problem. In a few cases we have been challenged to design specialized conveyors for example transport and picking of biological samples. We have successfully designed and manufactured a system for a UK based company. Vertex have manufactured a specialized high precision index conveyor that is used in a detonator assembly production plant. The system require very high speed and high accuracy as assembly happens on the conveyor.
Vertex Automation design and manufacture various types of conveyor systems for the industry. We do any product conveyors as used in factories. It is important to note that we do not do Mining conveyors. Our specialty is any conveyor system for almost any type of product. We have developed and manufactured a conveyor system for the transportation of the FORD RANGER in its final painted condition. These are very large parts that need to be transported without any damage t the painted surface. Part of the installation is s specialized assembly conveyor for the assembly of the bumpers.
Another example of our specialized systems is a conveyor to transport the ceramic cores of Catalytic Convertors. These products get damage very easily on the edges. As a result of the manufacturing process, they have a bit of fine ceramic dust inside the pores. When transporting the cores the dust fall out onto the conveyor and the ceramic dust cause irregular transport and edge damage. Vertex have developed a system that expel the dust and transport the parts without any damage.
Vertex Automation manufacture have also developed a system for Cash centers at banks where large volumes of cash is handled. Our system has increased the efficiency by 30% while increasing transparency reducing in reducing theft.
