Vertex Automation, founded in 1996 by Koos Smit and partners, became wholly owned by Koos Smit in 1999. In 2000, we secured our first major project with the South African Police Service, creating the world’s first fully automated DNA lab from scratch. Our involvement in projects like the South African Large Telescope followed, where we engineered critical components.
Another significant project was our fully automated mining detonator assembly plant, showcasing our expertise in high-risk environments. We expanded into the motor industry, reducing downtime for Ford South Africa by 73% on an ageing conveyor system. We’ve grown, from developing conveyor systems to tackling diverse challenges.
Our expertise extends to specialised environments, like ATEX, where we’ve upgraded production lines and developed fully automated crate assembly systems. We also designed a system for cash handling in banks, both internationally and locally. Vertex Automation also serves as a local distributor for ROLLON products, which are used in various industries for precise movements.
